Overview
The Dassault Falcon 7X, which entered service in 2007, was a watershed moment in business aviation: the first purpose-built business jet with a fully digital fly-by-wire (FBW) flight control system. Developed using technology from Dassault's Rafale fighter programme, the 7X's FBW system eliminates mechanical flight control linkages, resulting in lighter weight, reduced maintenance, and handling precision that pilots consistently describe as the best in business aviation.
The tri-engine configuration is a Dassault signature. Three Pratt & Whitney Canada PW307A engines provide redundancy that twin-engine jets cannot match, particularly valuable for overwater flights and operations into challenging airports. ETOPS restrictions that limit twin-engine routing simply do not apply to the 7X — it can fly the most direct route between any two points on Earth.
With over 300 delivered since 2007, the 7X has established itself as a reliable workhorse for operators who demand both range and operational flexibility. Its successor, the Falcon 8X, offers more range but the 7X remains in production-supported service and commands strong residual values on the pre-owned market.

Performance
The Falcon 7X's 11,019 km range enables nonstop flights from Paris to Tokyo, London to Buenos Aires, or Moscow to Los Angeles. Three PW307A engines produce a combined 19,206 lbf of thrust while maintaining a total fuel burn of approximately 1,100 kg/h at long-range cruise — remarkably efficient for an aircraft of this capability.
The fly-by-wire system provides automatic trim, flight envelope protection, and turbulence damping that smooths the ride for passengers. The system also enables a landing approach speed of just 114 knots, giving the 7X access to shorter runways than any other aircraft in its class. The landing distance of 640 m is shorter than many light jets.
The 7X can climb directly to FL510 and cruise above virtually all weather and commercial traffic. Its three-engine configuration provides additional climb performance at high-altitude airports like Aspen, Toluca, and La Paz.
Cabin Layout
The 7X cabin stretches 11.91 m — long enough for three distinct zones. A typical configuration includes a forward club of four seats, a mid-cabin conference or dining area, and an aft lounge or private suite. The 2.34 m width and 1.88 m height provide full stand-up room and a flat floor throughout.
Dassault's cabin management system offers individual passenger control of lighting, temperature, window shades, and in-flight entertainment via touchscreen panels or personal devices. The 100% fresh air system with HEPA filtration ensures a healthy cabin environment on flights exceeding 12 hours.
The in-flight accessible baggage compartment holds 3.96 m3 of luggage — sufficient for 14 passengers on multi-day trips.

Competitors
The Falcon 7X competes with the Gulfstream G600, Bombardier Global 6000, and its own successor, the Falcon 8X. The 7X's tri-engine configuration and fly-by-wire system remain its primary differentiators. While the G600 offers a wider cabin and the Global 6000 slightly more range, neither can match the 7X's short-field performance or the routing freedom of three engines.
For buyers considering the 7X versus the 8X, the choice often comes down to range requirements. The 8X adds nearly 1,000 km of range and a slightly longer cabin, but well-maintained 7X aircraft represent exceptional value on the pre-owned market.
